Today I heard from a knitter, Jill Weber, that I met when she took my class on Bohus knitting at the 2011 IK Knitting Lab in San Mateo, California.  I am a shameless enabler at these things, and really love it when students have the confidence to order a Bohus kit and make a sweater for themselves.  Jill not only obtained a kit for the Red Edge from Solveig Gustafsson, but knit it up and won both the Best of Show, and the Sweepstakes ribbon at the Indiana State Fair.

Solveig’s kits always contain a generous amount of yarn, and Jill did something really interesting with hers.  The original sweater has a plain color back, but Jill put a design on the back, as well as the front.  I think she did a beautiful job, and Bohus knitters everywhere will appreciate her stunning work.

I’m working on a few things, but about to travel a bit over the Labor Day weekend, so have been wondering what my travel project should be.  My first choice was Brooke Nico’s Lush and Lazy Trapeze, from the current Knitter’s magazine. (I saw the sample at Stitches Midwest, and it is gorgeous).  But the yarn I want to use, Dye For Me’s Suri alpaca Merino Glow (purchased at Stitches), swatched up too thin for the pattern.  Then I looked at #26 Boatneck top, from VK Early Fall 2011.  I really love this, and will knit it someday, but it calls for 2 colors, and more yarn than I have.  Then I found the Roseleaves Tunic, from “A gathering of Lace”.  Designed by Meg Swansen, it is a lovely sweater that will be fun to knit and wear.  My swatch came out beautifully, and I am set to go.  That one ball of yarn is going to be a sweater!  Is that perfect for traveling, or what?
